Musical Director for InChorus Choir, Peebles

InChorus is an established SSAATTBB choir of around 50 auditioned members who love to sing all kinds of, mainly, contemporary rock and pop music, either a capella, accompanied by a live pianist, or using professional backing tracks. However, the choir’s large library covers many other genres, including Scottish folk, show tunes and modern arrangements of classical pieces.

The choir is based in Peebles in the Scottish Borders, where we enjoy enthusiastic support from the local community. We are well travelled, performing at a wide range of events from concert halls and festivals to weddings and smaller performances. We have performed with other choirs and with professional singers such as Dougie MacLean and Fish (Marillion).

A charity itself, InChorus has raised many tens of thousands of pounds for other charities.

InChorus is a dedicated and disciplined choir which has worked hard to achieve and maintain the reputation we have earned for vibrant accomplished performances. We pride ourselves on performing without scores. We have worked with various notable vocal coaches and arrangers. In addition to this we are known as a caring, warm-hearted, fun-loving and welcoming group.

InChorus has ambitious plans for the future to ensure that it continues to grow, develop and improve, and is seeking a charismatic Musical Director, with experience of leading adult groups, who will assist in advancing the choir’s aspirations. This person will have all the attributes to achieve this in terms of musical ability and communication skills, and to develop, introduce and lead the choir in live performance. They should be able to accompany rehearsals (or collaborate closely with an accompanist, if required) and guide the choir toward confident performances. They will have a flair for creativity, a sense of fun and adventure, and a real passion for the music. The ability to produce bespoke arrangements for the choir would be an advantage, though not essential.

The new MD will be supported by the choir committee and section leads.

The choir rehearses on Monday evenings, 19:30 to 21:30 in Peebles.

Remuneration will be by negotiation and will be commensurate with experience.  To note an interest in the position, and for further details of the recruitment process and a copy of the role description, please contact manager@inchoruschoir.co.uk or www.inchoruschoir.co.uk. A full CV together with a covering letter must be submitted by 31 December 2026. Successful applicants will be asked to attend an initial interview early in the new year.
